These are the best speakers I have ever owned in 57 years of being a stereo fanatic and going through 6 pairs of speakers in that time. Because I could not place the speakers ideally I did end up purchasing a small sub-woofer for the system. Folks, you have to use the Upscale Audios speaker position guide. It's a lot of work but you will be blown away with the final result! I should note these speakers take awhile while to "break in" for lack of a better term but at two months they seem to just get better and better.

I remember friends with JBL century speakers in the mid 70s. I remember the full open sound. The seeming effortless movement from rock to jazz and the aural sensation of having performers in the room with me. The L82s have captured that presence perfectly in half the volume. I told my wife that we should get the bespoke speaker stands to enhance their sound. Her reply, “How could they sound better?” Yep.

I was expecting them to have a bigger presence than their footprint might suggest and they certainly do. What I wasn't expecting was them for them to have the finesse and detail they have. I listen to a great deal of music I grew up with (I'm 68)--and these speakers are right at home with all that classic to folk to roots and beyond. But I also listen to a good deal of classical music and the greatest surprise of all was what they delivered with the fourth movement of Sibelius's 5th symphony. It's a piece I know well and I didn't know the horns could sound like that, and with so much spaciousness wrapped around them. Plus, they look totally awesome with my vintage reconditioned Marantz 2325!
