I have a small listening room (15'L x 9'W x 8'H) with some acoustic treatments (corner bass traps and acoustic tiles). Even using a subwoofer (SVS SB-3000) and all it's controls (volume, low-pass freq and slope, phase, and three EQ bands), with all my other speakers (about a dozen), which are all ported or vented, the flattest I could get the bass response was +/- 5 dB at the listening position. Since my subwoofer is sealed, and this speaker is sealed, I though I might be able to get a flatter response with these. And, I did: +/- 3.5 dB at the listening position. The low bass now sounds tighter than I've ever heard, regardless of what frequencies it's at, and I absolutely love it. I also like the sense of space between instruments that I hear. I think that's because these speakers have enough detail that you actually hear the space that the instrument was recorded in (e.g, reverb in the studio). I quite love it and these speakers seem to have more detail than even my $7k USD Dynaudio Heritage Specials. And I listen to these on the LO setting for the mid/treble.

I have spent most of my adult life believing good speakers sound good and very expensive speakers sound a bit better. KLH has proven me wrong. The model 5's sound phenomenal in every way even though the price of admission is very reasonable. I'm seriously spending three or four more hours a week listening to my system.

Excellent speakers. Extraordinary full and natural sound. Very clear tight bass, and surprisingly present on vocals, with detailed imaging. They make me want to listen to my CD collection all over again!

Listen Up People! Killer Diller vintage looks YES! But quit buying these speakers if you’re looking for a vintage sound. Will they make a lot of your old 60s and 70s LPs and CDs sound better than super high dollar audiophile speakers - Yes. But be forewarned, these are actually hi-fi speakers. Super wide soundstage, great center image, good image specificity, good to very good depth (with tube amps, I don’t use transistors on main speakers). They are just the tiniest smidge on the cool side of neutral and are surprisingly high in resolution - clean, well recorded audiophile recordings are stupid good on these speakers, but nasty gritty recordings will still sound nasty and gritty. They don’t have any glare and they don’t shout like horn speakers do. The bass has that satisfying natural and tuneful feel that only sealed boxes do, and benefits from being within a foot or two of the front wall (which is normally a no-no). The included stands are superb and a must for tonal balance. They make this a great walk around while listening, turn it up during a party speaker. BUT BE ADVISED, while these are cool as rule vintage looking units - they are serious sit down and listen to your best stuff speakers. One more thing, I looked at all the pics on the web, watched all the YouTube videos - none do the mahogany veneer justice. Kevin sent consecutive serial numbers with identical wood grain and the fit and finish is superb.

I really love these. Upscale shipped them out super fast and I’ve been listening 6 hrs a day. I can’t stop, they do that toe tapping thing. Zero listening fatigue. Take the time to position them and you will be rewarded. They opened up more at 20 hrs and will continue to sound better. I usually listen with my sub off. Very tight satisfying bass. I’ve had speakers in the 4K range and these are more satisfying.

Very disappointed in these speakers, which I ultimately exchanged (and upgraded) for Klipsch Heresy IVs, which are absolutely fantastic. Problems with the KLH: 1) Craftsmanship - I suspect I got a defective set. The acoustic balance control knob on one was misaligned and the coating on the front of the speaker was starting to bubble and crack by the edges. The outside of the speaker (West African Mahogany) was beautiful, but a close inspection of the front of the speaker after removing the grill left much to be desired, especially around the edges. 2) Sound -Despite rave reviews from just about everyone else, I found the sound good, but not great. Midrange was too pronounced, highs too muted, and the speakers lacked the big soundstage and "oomph" I expected. Perhaps it was just a bad amp pairing (Cambridge CXA81), but these sounded only marginally better than my old Klipsch RP 280Fs, which cost less than half the price. If anyone looking in this price range, seriously consider springing extra for the Heresy IVs.
