“It has one small on/off button and two small lights. It is built with thick heavy metal with heat fins on the side. It does not get hot, just warm to the touch. The surrounding air hardly warms up. It sounds excellent and it does exactly what I want. I have two 350 watts into 8 ohms tube monoblocks that are very warm sounding with a large soundstage and lots of detail; they are a very very good amplifiers, but I wanted cleaner highs that were not rolled off and more precision in the music. I wanted less than the tube 0.5% THD. The Musical Fidelity M8s 500s has THD+N < 0.007%, 20 Hz to 20 kHz and 500 watts per channel into 8 ohms, a damping factor > 330 and 200 amps of current peak to peak as listed in its specifications. It does deliver a clean detailed sound through my Focal 1028Be speakers. The horn playing of Miles Davis is the best I have heard. I told my wife that one test of an excellent amplifier was the breath test with female vocalists. She had never heard of that before. So, we did the test with Nora Jones and we were stunned by her singing and breathing. A similar sound was present with my tube monoblocks, but this was a completely new experience at another level. The M8s 500s gets an A+ on the breath test and overall the music is more dynamic and very detailed. It is delivering exactly what I was seeking to hear. I am very satisfied with this purchase. As usual, the double box was in a third box with plastic peanuts for safe shipping. Joel Bennett helped me seal the deal. Kevin Deal and his team at Upscale Audio are the best.”
