Bought a quad of these for my McIntosh MC30 amps. Transaction was simple and the product arrived quickly and safely. Out of the box they blended well with all the other tubes and sound sweet. Thanks Upscale!

I play through a Hughes & Kettner Triamp MK II and use JJ tubes typically. I was looking for a good warm sounding tube for channel 1B which is the dirty clean and this tube did the job wonderfully. This tube is warm, crisp and clear and will not add unnecessary high-end harshness. It's clear without brittleness. It's also very quiet for a high gain tube. I am currently using this tube in the V1 position and it added warmth and clarity to the whole amp without reducing the gain. If you're looking for midrange thickness I'd probably recommend JJ tubes. I love their thickness for my higher gain channels, especially the Gold-pin versions.

Prior to installing the Mullards from Kevin, the pre-amp was using 6 x JJ ECC803S tubes in the phono stages. There are 3 phono stages in my pre-amp, so it was imperative that the Mullards (or any other tubes) be super quiet. With the JJs, the sound was solid, but a bit analytical and sterile in the mid-range and top end. The sound needed warmth and body to become more lifelike. I installed the Mullard CV4004 tubes (6 of them, 3 on each channel) per the recommendation of Kevin. They did exactly what I had hoped. The midrange warmed up with a fuller presentation. The top end sterility was eliminated and the top end is still very extended. Violins sound more lifelike. Chimes and bells are still crystal clear without etchiness or electronic haze. The sterility is gone. The midrange warmth is evident with the massed strings. Also, brass instruments have bite but still have body and warmth. Hard to find this combination, but the Mullards did the trick. These Mullards are not overly warm. They are just right. Very musical and spot on tonality. HIGHLY Recommended.

five out of five for the price! (but you gotta save the five-stars for the nos stuff). i'm using a pair of these in an aesthetix calypso (w/ a pair of the amperex 7308's, fantastic those). these reissues provide a solid, warm, musical, and noise-free musical experience, good bass and highs, lush mids. a great improvement on the "teslovaks" that were employed in my unit (not a bad tube, but ....). great price for what you get -- should be a stalwart for many preamps, phono stages, etc., where a little bit of warmth is desired (isn't it always, where cd's are involved?). haven't compared the cv4004 directly to the straight mullard reissue 12ax7 (i've hd this tube, just not in the calypso), but hear tell it can be the better choice in many situations. thanks to mike matthews for saving the reflektor glass plant from the wrecking ball, and to mr. deal, for supplying and grading them, and helping all the audifools w/ a safe place to go for their toobs.
