I own a ps audio transport and dac, which went for $ 8000.00. The Naim CD5 SI CD, sounds just a good if not better.

I was blown away by what an entry-level Naim CD player was capable of doing. I'm listening through electrostatic speakers and high-end monoblock amplifiers, and it sounds pretty good to us, better than more expensive CD players we've had in the system. I don't mind opening the door manually, the magnetic puck is interesting. The only downside is that you can't improve it with an external Naim power supply, but maybe it's good enough as it is, just by itself.

I purchased this to replace my 1990 Creek CD60 the gold standard in CD players. Have had several Naim products previously. They are freekin awesome. The CD 5si lives up to that. The pull out tray really keeps you physically connected to the music and has a great "feel". In 1990 I paid $1,800 for my beloved Creek. I-was a little concerned if the well priced Naim would make me happy. Well, it is unbelievable. It exceeds all my expectations and then some. The base is fantastic and soundstage is worldly. A definite A+++ or an 11 )on a scale of 1-10)

I have had Naim amps and pre amps previously. And was looking for a high end CD player. I didn’t want a multi function cd player, just a CD player. Since this is just a CD player, all the interior components are for only CD playing and are at a very high quality. Initial sound was awesome, however after about 100 hrs (I left the unit on for 4 days) it blossomed into quite the detailed and at the same time, warm accurate reproduction. It is quite analog sounding while being clear and precise. Its unique pull out drawer is very simple and very sturdy. It has a small magnetic center piece that goes over the CD to secure it. Very simple, as the magnet pulls it right into place. Like a great record player (which I also own) it keeps you physically connected to the music. An audiophile’s dream, only challenge is deciding if you like the CD vs the Vinyl version of your collection. An awesome CD player matching those costing thousands more. In fairness, those others also have other functions however, the Maim CD5 SI equals, or betters their sound!

I did not volunteer to do this, but I was asked to review. The unit skipped mercilessly out of the box, and was returned in less than an hour of listening. I expected a lot more from a product of this storied brand.
