Due to circumstances beyond my immediate control, I am still in the process of setting up my Mu-so and rearranging my existing audio equipment. This is therefore more of an unboxing review.  The unboxing was impressive! The unit is very attractive and everybody who sees it comments on its appearance. The build quality is solid, with only two very minor comments: 1) The connection ports on the bottom of the unit are inconvenient. 2) The surface finish on top of the heatsink could be smoother. A dust cloth will snag on it.  In all, it’s one amazing unit. If it sounds like it looks, it will be heaven! I’m assembling a new Pangea Vulcan audio rack for it to sit on top off. It’s the perfect size for the Mu-so.  I also have a new AudioQuest power cord and four IsoAcoustics Bronze isolators. I’m almost ready and will be back once the unit is broken in.

I have a pretty high end stereo system comprised of 805d3 speakers with a musical fidelity amp and B&W subwoofer. I recently moved into a large apartment but my neighbors have still been complaining of the system being too loud. I also found that system fatiguing for long sessions or late night movies. I began the search of a small audiophile grade one box unit that could suffice until I move back into a bigger home. After 2 days with the MuSo2 I’m blown away. I’ve actually decided to sell my system and just use this for music/movies/television. The build quality is far better than I imagined. The sound quality is superb. It’s very important if you use for Tv that you set your appleTV to stereo and not pass thru. The unit cannot decode multi-channel and the sound was very light on vocals until I changed this setting (I was getting 2 out of 5 or 7 channels being sent). In stereo it is FANTASTIC. Detail with sweet mids and unbelievable bass. Not bass slam like a cheap dsp enhanced unit, but real mid bass and surprisingly low bass as well. It sounds like a very high end center channel with a soundstage wider than my 85” Sony TV. I came from a home theater system that I spent over 40 grand on electronics/processing alone so I’m no novice to good movie sound. For music it’s simply stunning. I’m getting more enjoyment out of it than my previously mentioned system which is mind blowing. My living room is 14x17 and open to a large kitchen and I can’t turn it past ~60% without it being too loud. No doubt this would fill a 22x24 foot media room like I had in my previous home. I’m very glad it doesn’t attempt to do surround effects as it’s much the better for it. I just ordered one for my dad’s office and I want to buy one for every loved one as it’s that impressive. Better than B&O systems I’ve heard of the same size and much more realistic in its sound reproduction. The unit never feels like it’s using dsp to fake sound quality, rather it’s effortless sound that is musical and extremely detailed without being fatiguing (my main complaint with the diamond series bowers and Wilkins, or any B&W for that matter). Buy one now while the price is good. It sounds 4-5X the price IMHO.
