I highly recommend the Polk R700s; the value is exceptional. A Music Fidelity M5si powers the speakers easily and in my listening space 45% power will push the speakers to 80 dB or so. As a full range frequency system, the bass presence brings a body to the music I had not experienced in a bookshelf pairing. The speakers are articulate, express different musical genres gracefully, capture detail and texture across frequencies, and maintain a 3D soudstage. A relatively flat frequency reponse doesn't color the sound (see other reviews online) presenting a neutral and natural sound. The speakers are enjoyable at lower listening levels but require power to push the woofers if you want to feel the bass.

The Polk R700 are amazing speakers. There’s a reason no one can keep them in stock for very long. I have had mine long enough for them to burn in. The sound is amazing paired with my Vincent SV 737 also purchased from Upscale Audio. I listen to a lot of music and all genres these are the best speakers for multiple genres. I researched and listen to many speakers. Klipsch, Focal Chora, Wharfdale, and I kept coming back to the Polk R 700. I have been wanting to buy these for well over a year now, however they are hard to find in the Walnut Ex specially. When I saw Upscale had them I jumped at the chance I called Joel my sales rep and he made sure that I got one of the two pairs they had in stock. The difference between the best and all the rest is Customer service. Upscale Audio is second to none. Any time I call who ever I talk to always takes the time to help me no matter what and everyone is super knowledgeable I will never buy from any one else. Back to the Polk R700 I spin a lot of vinyl and steam Tidal and nugs.net. These speakers really shine and for the price the punch way above their weight class. Right out of the box they sound good female vocals really shine. Fiona apple, Tori Amos, Mary J. Bliege, Etta James… It’s if they are in the room singing directly to you… I played Tool for almost two days straight hearing details I never heard before…. No need to run a sub-woofer in my opinion the bass is just fine without you can feel it in you’re chest. Don’t believe me just check out Loving you by Al Green or Work That by Mary J Bliege… I have some first pressings of Led Zepplin on Vinyl Plants vocals shine and Bonham on the drums never sounded so good to me. In conclusion these speakers are the best speakers I’ve heard including others that cost 5 grand or more. The louder you crank the volume the better it sounds no distortion or colorization. It really sounds great a low volumes too.. As it burns in it just gets better and better. It is also great for movies I run them through a switch so when I’m listening to music I-run them through my Vincent. When watching tv or movies I run them through my Denon AVR receiver. If you are considering these speakers get them you want be disappointed, however I recommend at least 100 watts per Chanel when listening to music to get their full potential. They sound fine at 50 or 80 watts which my Denon is but they really shine when you put at least 100 watts into them….
