Well, I’m not any kind of expert on evaluating audio gear, but my first impression of this small amp has been very positive. Build quality, “fit and finish”, and so forth are terrific. I am reserving final opinion of the sound until a few more hours are on it. So far though, it seems very good. It’s a physically small amplifier, but a “chunk”. It’s heavier than it looks!! I am looking forward to hooking up my Chord Qutest. Right now I’m using an old, but decent NAD 521i CD player. Next step, Tannoy autograph mini’s. I have a REL T5i that I already purchased from Kevin & Company. The Pathos is so far is not disappointing.

I bought this because I was curious, what would a purely digital Pathos product sound like? The answer is “pretty darn good”. First - this product really does requires at least 500+ hours of break-in time. I have never had a product that went through so many sonic changes during break-in or one that sounded so drastically different after break-in than it did fresh out of the box. At first, the amp sounded like what I expected it sound brand new - very digital. But all that went away, it takes several hundred hours but it all goes away. If I was blind listening, I would not guess that this is a Class D amp. This amp’s dynamics are incredible. My other amp is a nice Prima Luna with upgraded tubes all around. I figure it’s power output is about the same as this Pathos, but the Pathos dynamics kick butt. Just as important, along with the increased dynamics comes a very noticeable increase in detail. In that regard, the changes in dynamics and detail that this amplifier provides seem like something that only an upgraded DAC could provide. I do know that, obviously, a Class D amp has to process a signal like a DAC does, from analog to digital and back to analog. This obviously gave Pathos a chance work some internal magic, and they took advantage of it. I am very happy with the sound and it’s power seems quite underrated, but maybe it’s those dynamics! The build quality is exquisite, really is. Also, this little box is heavy, indicating heavy transformers inside. The box doesn’t weigh all that terribly less than a solid metal billet it’s size would. Because of that I was curious to go inside the box but I didn’t. It has small, proprietary fasteners and I wasn’t going to mess this beautiful box up. Again note that a long break-in is absolutely required for so many reasons. Recommend. Enjoy.
