“I’ve been into audio for 30 years and have had lots of gear to base this review on. I have always believed that a good tube preamp paired with a stout solid state amp is the way to go and consequently have built many systems like this. The PrimaLuna EVO400 is in a league by itself. It seems to take the best aspects of a good tube design and a good solid state design and make a terrific hybrid piece of kit. The soundstage is ridiculously wide and engaging, but the best characteristic of the pre is how realistic it portrays music. If you LOVE music and not Hifi gear this is for you. Compared to BAT, Melos, Schiit, Aragon gear I’ll take the PrimaLuna any day. Oh, lastly bass is somewhat bloomy, but not loose like “tube” gear sounds nor is it ultra tight like a SS pre, it is just right in my eyes.”
