“I bought a pair of these from Upscale Audio 7 or 8 years ago. RFT EZ80s are viewed as the best economical tube for my amp (Woo Audio WA2), and Mullard EZ80s are seen as the holy grail rectifier tubes. But I prefer the Philips Miniwatt EZ81s. They're a bit warmer than the Mullard EZ80s or RFT EZ80s. The soundstage and imaging are both very good--and silky treble to boot.”

“This was step 1 in my first tube rolling exercise (Quad PA One Headphone amp). I'd read a bunch of reviews and comments about changing the rectifier tube... some said it's on the power side and won't affect sound (NOT true) and others supported doing it. This tube alone made a improvement step similar to a berrylium/copper wall socket, power conditioner, and high end power cables. Spaciousness was greatly improved. Presence, separation, detail... all of it. This was replacement for a JJ EZ81. Thanks Upscale Audio for the great advice.”
