This is my first serious phono stage, and quite happy with it. Got with the upgraded Brimar tube, recommended by Kat [great no-nonsense audio sales person]. The dip switch adjustments can be made on the fly by pulling out the unit. It would be good if the dip switches were labeled for the various combinations of capacitance and impedances. I made a sticky label and stuck it by the dip switches for ease of reference. The differences in tone with the Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC* cartridge are subtle, but they are there. I would have liked it better if the powerswitch for the 701 would be on the front panel, as opposed hunting for it along in the rear. So I tend to let it run for long times and only if I am not going to listen for at least a day, then I turn off the master switch on the power conditioner. I cannot compare it to anything else, as I upgraded TT (VPI super prime scout), cartridge (Soundsmith Zephyr MIMC*) and phono stage at the same time, so cannot tell contribution from each element. The overall package has much better sound (clarity, channel separation) than my previous (Thorens TD203POS, Ortofon 2Mblue, Rotel 1572 built-in phono stage).
