“I purchased this unit in combination with the Pro-Ject 6 PerspeX SB turntable. The DS3 is an excellent piece of gear with top notch build quality. A must have if you are using a balanced Por-Ject turntable via XLR outputs/inputs (can only be utilized with a low ouput Moving Coil cartridge). Originally I was using the supplied RCA cables connected to the DS3 that came with the PerspeX, but the switch from open ended RCA to balanced XLR made a noticeable improvement. The output was dead quiet and low frequencies were tighter with an improved transient response on the top end. Upscale may tell you that balanced cables only matter for long cable runs. This is true, but they have an even bigger impact for ultra low voltage signals such as those coming from a low output MC cartridge and/or microphone (the low voltage has a substantial amount of gain applied, and even the smallest amount of EFI/noise/hum will be amplifed and can be audible). Common mode rejection is a must have if you desire an ultra black, quiet background in your system. This componet also offers varable impedence controls, great for MC cartridges. The dull mono discrete circuitry puts it a class above anything else in this price range.”
