If you are looking to upgrade from a 'lifestyle' TT to something serious, I don't think you could do much better than the Rega Planar 6. I really got into vinyl only a few months ago, starting out with an Audio-Technica LP60BT, next going to an AT LP120X, which then gave way to a Fluance RT-85. I upgraded the cart on the Fluance to an AT-750SHx, and quickly realized that as nice as the Fluance is as an entry-level table, the cart was likely being held back by the tonearm. Rather than settling or deciding to keep moving up incrementally, I made the decision to upgrade to something solidly in the 'entry-level audiophile' trier of turntables. I originally ordered a Planar 3, but started to wonder if that would be the upgrade I hoped for, and gave Upscale a call before the table shipped out. The rep I spoke with, Richard, was very friendly and super helpful in describing the differences between the P3 and P6, and helped me decide that the P6 was worth the few hundred dollars extra. I ended up settling on the P6 with the Nd5. The P6 arrived expertly set up by Sean-Paul, and while setting azimuth is dead simple with a Rega cart (thanks to the three-point mounting), he also set tracking force and anti-skate perfectly. After about fifty hours of playtime, the cartridge and table have completely broken in, and the levels of detail, musicality, pace, rhythm and timing are just outstanding. I'm using a Chord Huei phono stage, going to a Rega iO integrated amp powering a pair of Totem Acoustics Loon speakers. A wonderful combination, but I'm upgrading the iO to a Brio Mk 7 amp to get a bit more power. If you're on the fence about upgrading from an entry-level table and you are serious about vinyl, just do it if it's within your budget. I'm really happy with my P6, and very happy with the great customer service from Upscale.

Having owned a Planar 2 for almost 40 years (and it's still going) I thought I knew what to expect from this turntable. And to be fair, i did. It does what it says on the box. More than that, it does it with style. Its lightweight, turns a nicely machined platter at the right speed, and coaxes some incredibly beautiful sounds from vinyl LPs and 12 inch singles. I don't know if it's the specific combination of turntable and cartridge, or whether the cartridge would be great regardless of what tone arm its connected to, but together they can be spectacular. I'm glad that Upscale Audio suggested I consider cartridges other the standard one.

The Rega Planar 6 is my first fory into belt drive turntables. I have never owed a belt drive table, current tables are Technics 1500C, Technics 1200GR, and Denon's newest direct drive DP 3000NE. There are many aspects about the Rega I dont care for. Seperate power supply/speed change, hardwired tonearm interconnect, no detachable head shell, no vertical tracking angle, very slow to get up to speed. But the playback sound quality is what keeps it on my console the other tables stowed in a cupboard. The Rega P6 is simply the best sounding table i have ever owned. A special thank you to Bill whom I spoke with regarding the Rega and his honest and professial advice. I highly recommend Upsacle Audio as a source for acquiring Hi-Fi equipment.
