This is a tough one... Does it improve the performance of the Pro-ject Phono Box RS? Yes, marginally. I spent a whole weekend doing nothing but A/B comparisons of various tracks with the Power Box RS Phono powering the phono stage, or the phono stage powered by its stock wall wart. Overall the noise floor is lower, but not 'night and day' lower. AC hum is marginally reduced. I use a Hana ML low output phono cartridge and have the Phono Box RS gain set to 60db. As I listened to my reference tracks across several albums I never experienced a moment where (with the Power Box RS Phono powering the phono stage) my head snapped up from my notes in response to a clear difference in reproduction. I had numerous such moments when I performed an A/B comparison of the Vessel B3SS and the Hana ML. I thought the Vessel was very good, until I played Alan Parsons Project's "I Robot", Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring", and Vivaldi's "Four Seasons". That sealed the deal on the Hana in spades. The Power Box Phono RS... to be honest, I was too lazy to box it all up (it came in a huge box - I thought they sent me two units) and send it back. I rationalize the purchase by saying this product takes AC-related noise wholly off the table, but could have better spent my money hunting some LPs to round out the collection.
