“I have an older Cary amp that uses these tubes, and in that application, the RCA VT-229 is easily the best that I have tried. The only tube I have not tried in that position is the venerable and expensive Mullard equivalent. This is circuit dependent of course, I once set up a phonostage for a friend in which the Tung-Sol equivalent was best. Try, try again.”
