The Sumiko Starling cartridge is amazing. Upscale Audio mounted the cartridge on a Rega Planar 10 turntable and, after 20 hours of play, I noticed it starting to break in. My previous cartridge was the Hana MC—an excellent cartridge in its own right, but not as bright or detailed as the Starling. The Starling offers more warmth, instrumental detail, depth, and soundstage height. While playing Mobile Fidelity’s 45 RPM remaster of Linda Ronstadt’s Prisoner in Disguise, the spatial imaging was so detailed it felt as though Linda were standing right in front of me; her voice seemed to float above the speakers. Thank you, Richard, for helping me select this phono cartridge.

Hard to pick a cartridge these days with so many choices ! I previously owned a Lyra Delos for years and wanted to try something new. The starling is great sounding cart and would not hesitate to buy it again. You need to get VTA just right and this cartridge comes to life in a great way!

Was looking to change out my Sumiko Amethyst MM for a MC that I would get more detail from. Sean Paul guided me and I ended up with the Sumiko Starling. After their installation on my Michell Gryro SE I played it once home in AZ and what a difference from the Amethyst. Total improvement. Way more detailed and I’m hearing nuances in tracks that I never heard before. Make me want to binge play all my vinyl over and over to hear everything new again. Hah. The professionalism of everyone at Upscale was top drawer. Kevin gave me some advice on future speaker selection that I should have got years ago. This place is the real deal on high end audio. Don’t waste your time anywhere else. Thanks all.

I have the Sumiko Starling paired with a Technics 1300G. The combination is effortlessly musical. Rather than restate what is well published in online reviews, I will simply say that the resounding positive reviews are in fact true… the Staling is a great cartridge.

The Starling is still in its early breaking in period, but it is one of the nicest sounding carts I've ever heard. Perfect balance and detail for my vinyl records. Thanks Sean-Paul!

Nice, tight bass. Extended HF, which gives the sound a beautiful, airy quality (Not etched or brittle). Awesome channel separation; great soundstaging. Absolutely my favorite cart!
