Being a typical audiophile, my system is always evolving as I try out new gear. My personal baseline has always been my Vincent SV-237MK hybrid integrated amp. It is as close to perfect as I have found for my preference in how my music is presented. Because of that, it's that one piece of gear that I will never sell. That being the case, I was very interested in the SV-228 when it came out, primarily because it eschewed the use of the 6N1P-EV tubes in favor of the more widely available 12AU7 tubes. I also like the asthetics of the twin VU meters, along with the carry over of the loudness function, a must have for me. The only reason I held off buying one right away was that I really didn't believe it would sound better than my 237. Now, after several weeks of listening, I have to say I was wrong. It does sound better. It takes the attributes I most appreciate in the 237 and adds it's own musicality. The deep bass I love is still there, but with a hint more bottom. The mid range is more defined, and I am honestly hearing things in familiar recordings that I didn't hear with the 237. The upgraded DAC actually sounds better than the on board DAC in my Cambridge Audio streamer, another plus. I can't speak to the onboard Bluetooth because I don't use it. Bottom line; now I have two Vincents that I will never sell, and two good reasons to not keep trying to fix something that isn't broke.

I have owned Vincent's excellent SV-237MK hybrid integrated amplifier for several years now. Like most audiophiles, I am constantly rotating new gear in my system looking for the next better thing. Through it all, the 237 has always been my fallback, the one piece of gear I will never sell or trade because it sounds so good. I have had my eye on the SV-228 ever since it came out. I liked it's looks with it's central VU meters and smaller tone control knobs. It also retains the loudness function, a 'must have' on any integrated amplifier that I will consider. Another big change from the 237 is the switch from 6N1P-EV tubes to the more common and available 6N4/ECC83 tubes. This gives owners a lot more choice when it comes to tube rolling. I was slightly worried that the 228 did not carry over the Class A function of the 237, but that turned out to be a non-issue. Not only does the 228 sound as good as the 237, it is even more detailed and defined in the mid and upper ranges while still retaining the bass response I love in the 237. The newer DAC in the 228 also sounds better than the one in the 237, which wasn't a bad DAC in itself. Bottom line; the SV-228 has become my new mainstay. and will join the 237 as another piece of gear that will never be sold or traded.

I've had the vincent sv-228 for a few weeks now and I really like it. I'm using it to drive my wharfedale 4.4 & cabasse mc 40 speakers. Sounds amazing. Great service from Upscale audio. Looking forward to enjoying this system for years to come.
