“Beautiful to look at and wonderful to listen to, the VK-255SE is a wonderful solid state amp, which I have paired with a VK-53SE preamp, forming a magical pair of music-producing beauty. Bass is quick and deep. Treble and mid-range are exquisitely clear. Speed is lightning quick. It is absolutely silent (as is the VK-53SE preamp). The amp produces music as it was performed and recorded, including my own recordings. Some critics might complain that the VK-255SE does not throw a gigantic wall-to-wall sound stage. Some critics might complain that the VK-255SE does not produce a cavernously deep sound stage. I say these people do not attend enough live performances in real acoustic environments. A local church with exquisite acoustics. A jazz club with great musicians but a crappy sound environment. The choir rehearsal room at the local university. The living room where my grand piano lives. But also the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas, where the DSO performs. The BAT accurately and faithfully reproduces these sound stage environments, and the music performed and recorded in them, as if you are on stage with the musicians or on about row four, middle seat, of your average set of church pews. This, to me, is real. This, to me, is accurate. This, to me, is what makes a piece of audio equipment great. I give the VK-255SE four stars. I have only praise and respect for the design and performance of the VK-255SE. Highly recommended. What the BAT-255SE does is accurately reproduce the sound stage of the recording and performance venue of any recording you play through it. As a musician, as a performer, as a composer, that is what I want to hear in a recording, and in my own recordings, not some artificially enhanced larger-than-real-life sound stage.”
