New to tubes, I originally purchased a quad set of new production tung sols for my Schiit freya + —- great sound however I didn’t experience much of the holographic tube flavour everyone speaks about. So I decided to start with replacing two of the TS with these tubes….WOW. I didn’t know they were going to change things this much. The mids are richer and have more texture…and I don’t think the smoothness came at any loss of detail! These are a great buy. ALSO.. they are dead quiet and the shipping was fast. If your tube rolling I would definitely give these a try!

Received my pair of CBS Hutton 5691’s 2 days early! Plugged them into my Brown Audio Labs Reference preamplifier. Right off the bat they have tamed my slightly bright system. Can’t wait to hear them a couple hundred hours later! Thanks again for great advice and great products!

Based on a couple reviews below, I decided to give this tube a try on my Schiit Lyr 3 headphone amp. Popped it in and first up was Jackson Browne Late for the Sky. From the opening guitar riffs, I noticed a difference. A little more sustain on the guitar, a little more attack on drums and bass. A little more body to JB's voice. Lots of subtle differences that add up to something substantial. Heard the same when I switched over to Neil Young Tonight's the Night Live, Norah Jones Cold Cold Heart, etc. Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, Yes, Will Ackerman - pretty much everything I've listened to has benefitted from the change. It's expensive, but in this application it's one tube. To my ears, it's a pretty substantial improvement and definitely worth the money. Pretty sure I'll buy another one.

I put the Zalytron/CBS Hytron 5692 into a Schiit Lyr 3 multibit running Focal Elear cans as a replacement for a 1940s TungSol black glass w/ black oval plates that had gone bad (expensive sigh). I was not unsatisfied. If anything, this tube has a lower noise floor. Dead black background at any volume. Superb soundstage, deep and detailed. Bass extension is extraordinary with the right cans and not at all muddy. Midrange on vocals has that perfect “tube sound” you dream of that will make you cry. Treble extension is good and most importantly avoids the sibilance that I’ve heard on darned near all of the more modern tubes I’ve tried. Rock music is just plain fun with this tube and jazz... oh my. Like liquid sex. Those luscious midranges. Wow. The downside is, as expected, it’s not very tolerant of bad recordings and ends up pulling you out of the music, emphasizing the breakups and schmutz. I’ve been listening for nearly two solid days now and it has sounded awesome without any noticeable burn-in changes (got the cryo, so maybe Upscale’s post-cryo burn-in made the changes already). Very happy with this tube. Plus, their service and shipping was QUICK and solidly packed. Well, so much for my tube rolling hobby. This one is staying in the system for a while.

I put these in my WA-22 Woo Audio Headphone amp - amazing. Increased sense of depth and soundstage. More detail. More engaging sound. I put them in my Mystere CA-21 Pre-Amp and realised that I had a vibration problem in my stand (these tubes don't like vibrations} - once that was rectified the soundstage grew impressively in size. I swapped my old tubes back in and this confirmed the main source of the improvement in my system as being these tubes. Detail, staging, engagement! They have it all!

I just got my platinum grade Zalytron 5692s and I must say they are excellent input tubes (does not make sense to use this as driver tubes). If you are looking to make your VK 75 perform like the SE version, you have to get one of these. Yes they are very expensive but they are worth the money. The result may be different for a different set up but in mine which consists of an Electrocompaniet CD player, a VK 30 preamp and S. Faber Cremona speakers, they easily justify their cost.
