I postponed buying these for a long time but finally pulled the trigger and am glad I did!! I put two in the inner positions on my Mystere PA21 and after approx 30hours of playing time they really seem to open up and enhance the overall musicality of the sound, with a fuller midrange. Magical!! Thank you!!

Wow. These are amazing. Yes, they are costly, but might I suggest just going right for these if you are tube rolling for an 6SN7 - you are going to end up here anyway. :) When looking for other tubes types my first question is "which one is like the CBS 5962"? Remember, the biggest impact for pre-amp tubes is in the gain stage. If you want to save some money only use these in the gain. I used these in the Schiit Freya+ pre. These turned a really-great-for-the-price-pre-amp to a great pre-amp (which out the need to qualify for-the-price.)

I give this 6SN7 Platinum Grade tube 6 out of 5 stars with my Shiit Lyr with phono stage preamp. Doesn’t matter if it’s my KEF R300's or my Maggie 1.7i's with REL subs. I use a Benchmark AHB2 amp because I simply want the amp to magnify the signal I feed it, which it does astonishingly well, and an OPPO BDP 205, because it gives me my choice of different roll off characteristics for it's Saber DAC's. When I decided to go back to vinyl I was thinking of the Schiit Freya or the VINCENT AUDIO SA-32 (once they brought XLR outputs to the US), tube preamplifier, but decided to try the concept out with the Lyr first. Much easier to justify a fair amount of cash on one excellent tube. The TungSol tube that came with the Lyr was tube like, but not in a convincing way, but one really good tube is better than 4 mediocre tubes from either manufacturer, so by selecting the Lyr, could buy a single tube of the highest quality audio wise, recommended for the purpose of preamplification. Night and day: Really no other way to state it. The stock tube is great for continuing the compressive effect of either vinyl or CD's, and neutral on 24/96 digital files. This best of era 6SN7 adds several octaves to the hapless engineers effort to compress sound to fit music onto the conveyance medium. PHAT Sound! They’re really is no point in going to tubes, unless you can buy the best NOS tubes you can find for the purpose of audio, since not one company in the world makes tubes to rival the best of the best tubes available to the consumer. I think they are all either Czech or Chinese now, that come with new equipment. Perhaps tube power amps are different, or create a difference, I do not know. But to my way of thinking I want to isolate that one effect to one unit in the chain. Now that I have done that, looking at higher end tube preamps, I realize I have to add the cost of the tubes they use first. And I would recommend Audio Advisers rating system as tops in the field.
