The seeds of Milk Thistle are combined with three other important herbs used in healthcare for centuries – fresh extracts of Dandelion, Artichoke and dried Boldo leaves. A.Vogel’s Milk Thistle Complex was amongst the very first herbal products formulated by Alfred Vogel, one of Switzerland’s best known naturopaths.

Directions: As a food supplement, take one or two tablets of Milk Thistle Complex daily, or as directed by your healthcare professional.

It should also be noted that taking milk thistle should be avoided by those who have allergies in the same plant family, such as chrysanthemum, daisy, marigold, and ragweed. Milk thistle supplementation should be used with caution, as any supplement should. If you have a liver problem, consult your doctor before adding any new herbal remedy to your prescribed medication.
Side effects of milk thistle consumption can include:

Feeling queasy
Heartburn
Upset stomach
You should be careful not to take more than 1200mg per day, as this can cause toxic effects.
People with diabetes should use milk thistle supplements with caution, as these may lower blood sugar levels. There is also concern that milk thistle might affect oestrogen levels, so if you have breast cancer, uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, endometriosis or uterine fibroids, consider avoiding milk thistle.
Extract of fresh Cynara scolymus* (artichoke) leaves 46%, Silybum marianum (Milk Thistle) dried fruit 32%, fresh Taraxacum officinalis* (Dandelion) herb and root 12%, Peumus boldus (Boldo) dried leaf 7%, fresh Mentha piperita* (Peppermint) leaves 3%.
