“The Rivo Plus is a fantastic-sounding streaming transport, and based on sound quality alone, it easily earns a five-star rating. The level of detail, clarity, and musicality it delivers is truly impressive and clearly aimed at serious listening sessions. I opted for the Special Edition purely for aesthetic reasons – the bluish front of the standard version doesn’t quite fit with my interior design. In terms of form factor, haptics, and overall visual appeal, the Rivo Plus is very pleasing. It feels well thought out and premium. That said, the leather sleeve does not adhere perfectly to the chassis. While this is a minor issue, at this price point I would expect every detail to be executed flawlessly. My main criticism, however, is centered on convenience and usability. The app experience leaves significant room for improvement. From a usability perspective, it feels underdeveloped compared to competing solutions. AirPlay does not behave as reliably or consistently as it does on other devices, and TIDAL Connect has proven to be unstable in my setup – not due to network issues, but seemingly due to software or device behavior. I experienced frequent connection problems, when switching between apps. Often, reconnecting was simply not possible without restarting the device – sometimes multiple times. Since there is no dedicated power switch on the Rivo Plus itself, I had to perform hard restarts via the connected Lineo5 power supply. Switching between input devices is another pain point. In many cases, if I want to return to the Rivo Plus later, a restart is required. Even during dedicated listening sessions, the device occasionally becomes completely unresponsive: music continues to play, but none of the apps are able to connect or control playback anymore. As a result, the Rivo Plus is not practical for my day-to-day use or for a setup that involves frequent switching between sources. I can only rely on it for focused, dedicated listening sessions. For everyday use, I’ve gone back to my older streamer, which is far more convenient and stable – but unfortunately, its sound quality doesn’t come close to what the Rivo Plus delivers. This leaves me somewhat conflicted. I haven’t yet found an alternative that combines the sonic excellence of the Rivo Plus with the level of usability and stability I expect for daily use. Overall verdict: 5 stars for sound quality 3 stars for the overall experience”
