“After a decent amount of research, I felt that Vulcan offered the best combo of quality and affordability for getting started on Olympic lifting at home. The products were often sold out, so when I had the money and they were available, I ordered a 250 lb. set of Alpha Bumper Plates (10, 25, 45, 45), and a barbell (Vulcan 20kg Men's Training Olympic Bearing Barbell - Single Mark No Center Knurl). I have had these for about 4 months. While I am a beginner, my impression is definitely positive. Plates: - No smell - Low bounce (not above knee, even with just bar and 25s from overhead) - Solid. Been dropping on concrete garage floor and sometimes dirty/pebbly concrete carport floor, no dings, no signs of damage - Easy to tell apart bc of the colors - Raised lip and bevel on edge makes easy to pick up - If you care, the colors/patterns are really vibrant and look good - wipe with rag, look like new - tiny inconsistencies in the bevel when arrived, but overall feel like a great investment and great quality after first 4 months Barbell: The barbell seems to be working well for my needs (snatch, C&J, presses, squats, DLs - just Oly basics). I brush off the chalk daily, and wipe it down properly periodically. One time I left sweaty chalk gunk on it and there were some small color dots, which then disappeared after oiling. Otherwise, no signs of corrosion. If I could do it again, I would spend the extra $50 or whatever it was for the next tier up that has sharper knurl and the chrome-molybdenum, because after having a bare steel barbell previously, which had sharp knurl (but tons of rust) I would rather just have sharper knurl. That said, my calluses don't rip of as much. Also, for something that should last at least a decade with basic care, $50 bucks is nothing (especially compared to a monthly gym membership). Overall, pleased.”

“Just received my Alpha plate set and love them. Not only does the speckle look super cool, I love the buttery feeling of the coating. They shipped quickly and without damage as well. Very satisfied and would definitely recommend these plates.”

“Bought the 350lb set in 2019. They are awesome! I have one small complaint. After just one day of the sun shining through the window on the blue fleck it has faded to a very light greenish color. Not a big deal and doesn't affect anything but takes away some of the coolness factor of the plate. The greenish color is dark and almost blends in with the black. Just recently moved my gym from basement to garage and that's when I noticed.”

Thank you for your review. UV lighting/Sunlight can cause colored items to fade/discolor unfortunately.
