Hey Sarah, Thanks for taking the time to review our product. Varying thickness is very common for natural slate tiles. This is advised in the description. This can be sorted by using a thicker bed of adhesive when laying, to make them more even. I am sorry that they were not what you were expecting. Kind Regards, Walls and Floors.
