This is a light gray granite that has been stained black. It is A grade, but likely not as durable as black granite. It may be suitable depending on application and appears to be priced accordingly, but I was disappointed — just leave it gray and change the product photos to accurately reflect the materials.

It works as described. It's flat, very flat, and heavy. Can be used as a weight for gluing, etc. Best of all it's an excellent reference surface to make sure parts are really, really, totally damn flat!

These are cheap white material and not real black granite. They are obviously from China and have been painted or dye black. The older ones were real black granite, but Wood River has since changed to a cheaper version. I called to see which ones the store in Sterling Heights had, and the sales guy wasn't honest. He said it wasn't dyed, but they all were. The bottom was not dyed on any of them. It was obviously white.

Thank you for your inquiry, I spoke with our technicians and they confirmed that this is a true granite plate. The sides and top are polished to show the true color of the stone, the bottom of this is not polished, which can make the color vary between the polished, and unpolished sides. Hope this helps.
