Made two of these pens yesterday. They went together well enough, although I almost messed up and put the narrow end of the barrel down by the hand grip instead of the end where the cap screws on. Once I saw it together, it made sense why one end of the body needs to be narrower than the other; the cap needs to screw on both sides but only be flush when the pen is closed. As the review below suggests, the parts have changed from the directions. However, it looks like they took the old individual pieces that went on the same end of the assembly and put them together into a single piece. Therefore, the kit is actually easier to put together than it used to be - once you understand what they've done. You can look at the pictures in the directions and figure it out visually, but it took me a couple of moments to be sure I was doing it right. It certainly wasn't obvious that a change occurred. The best part of this kit - and the reason I bought it - is because it readily receives a Pilot G2 gel pen refill. I like to write in colors other than black, blue, and red and I get tired of the standard colors that you can only get with the typical ballpoint pen kits and their cross style inserts. With the rollerball Metro kit, I can buy any color G2 pen and put its ink cartridge in this pen and write with all sorts of colors! I took a picture of the end result, one pen was ebony and the other pen was olivewood. I had hoped to be able to upload it, but didn't have that option here.

The instructions need to be updated. I thought I was missing pieces and had to go all the way back to the store to find out that the kit parts had been changed.

The drill bit size for the cap, 15/32", is too large and creates a cavity that results in exploded wood barrels on the lathe. This problem was consistent with two different pen kits, and with two different high quality bits. Stepping down to 29/64" does not fix the problem as that size is too small. I have waisted multiple hours and money trying to make this kit work. I advise people to consider a different pen kit, unless they have a 59/128" drill bit.
