I bought this as a second grinder for the sharpening station I was setting up. Previously I had a no-name Woodcraft grinder which I gave to my son. I didn't care about the wheels that came w/ this unit as I was planning to us CBN wheels before I purchased it. The unit w/ CBN wheels has zero vibration. Where it falls short is I was unable to use the covers for the wheels and the CBN wheels barely fit on the shafts, there was just enough threads for the nut and washer. I don't use the platforms that came with as I have the Wolverine system for both of my grinders. I would recommend this only if one is planning to use CBN wheels.

Fortunately, I purchased a CBN wheel at the same time that I bought this grinder. I couldn't get rid of the wobble on either of the stone wheels that came with the grinder but the CBN wheel runs true with minimal vibration. Someday I may try to balance those other wheels but for now I am fine just running the grinder with the lone CBN wheel. Today, I sharpened a few turning tools on the Rikon grinder with the Wolverine sharpening system and was very impressed with the results.

I just bought this on sale and thankfully, it has virtually no vibration. The only thing that kept me from rating it a 5-star are the poorly designed tool rest mounts. Neither tool rest can be adjusted so that it is horizontal or square to the wheel. I'll be replacing them with a Veritas or Wolverine set-up.

I read the paragraph long description on how to adjust wheel wobble in the trouble shooting part of the owners guide and spent the entire morning trying to correct the problem but to no avail and returned the grinder. That's too bad because it seemed like a solid unit and ran very quiet. Others have had no problem but the amount of wobble in both wheels was just unacceptable.

It appears that the wobbling issue occurred in 2018 and before. Has this problem been fixed?

Having Purchased two of what Wooodcraft once offered as their imported, no-name 8" slow speed grinder I find this Rikon offering to be markedly superior. Both of the Woodcraft imported grinders that I bought were of marginal quality and lasted an astonishingly short period of time, especially considering the light duty that I asked of them. Unfortunately both of those WC grinders lasted just long enough to have the warranty be of no use whatsoever. For that reason, I purchased my Rikon grinder elsewhere. I can however recommend it.

Excellent product-No vibration upon reaching operating speed. Fine grit wheel produces very sharp, well finished surface. Solid unit!
