For all intent, the system simply does not work. It will collect large particles that are heavy enough to fall out of the swirling air to the bottom of the bucket. The rest will flow straight through to your shop vac. When the bucket is about 1/2 full, you'll need to empty it because EVERYTHING will flow straight through to your shop vac. While using with a tabletop planer, I ended up with a full shop vac and a 1/2 full bucket. I'm giving 2 stars because of the hose extensions and adaptors. They were the highlight of the whole system.

Used one of these with my shop vac for some months now but got fed up having to constantly empty the vac every time the cyclone container filled up so I attached a piece of muslin cloth to the elbow bend with a pipe clamp in the cyclone, now only fine dust goes through to the shop vac, cyclone now works fine.

I purchased this separator in order to save money on replacing my shop vac filters due to the fine wood dust that collects in the filter pleats on my shop vac. This separator is a disappointment. It does, indeed, separate out the larger particles, but it allows the fine dust to pass. It caught about 70% of the debris while the rest went all the way to the filter and the canister. If you work with MDF much, or any other material that generates lots of fine dust, don't even think about purchasing this product. The bucket and compressible hoses are great and are the only reason this item got 2 stars instead of 1. I wish I could post pictures of the before and after cutting/collecting so you could see that I'm talking about here.
