Super cool kit! I'd prefer if they used straight pins because the flanged press pins are a pain to line up properly without the specialized drill bit. I sharpened it (it wasn't crazy sharp out of the box) and it may be my new favorite knife. $50 including scales for a nice Japanese knife is a steel(get it?)!

I like the size and balance of this knife blank, and for me a nakiri blade is very functional. As with all Zhen products, I resent them putting their logo on my custom knife blade! As a result, I rarely buy their Damascus blades, since The Damascus pattern is ruined when I remove their logo. This is a company that doesn’t care , or doesn’t understand, their customer base! Maybe Woodcraft doesn’t either?

I received this as a gift for Christmas. Bought some Padauk scales and the #153927 Whiteside Pilot Drill & Counterbore to go along. Followed the instructions carefully and used the included cutler rivets. It all came together nicely with 30-minute epoxy. Go slow and double check everything before you commit. The knife turned out nicely.

Did one of these for a gift with a Cocobolo Rosewood handle, very impressed with the quality of the blades. This is a great shaped knife, allowing transfer of chopped or diced food to the pan with the knife itself with it's broad, flat blade. A GREAT vegetable knife for general kitchen use. The rivets are a bit daunting to get right, but the result is a fantastic knife and a super special gift. Highly recommended. If you have never use a professional type knife, you owe it to yourself to try one. I have a small dual sided DMT diamond stone in my kitchen drawer, and a few strokes with that renews the blade to razor sharpness....have done the Damascus blades for myself, and love them! Have my eye on the cleaver next! Item # 153651
