After a year of use everyone that has used this knife loved it. I am ordering two more for family members that have admired using this knife. If i could only have one knife, this would be it. I have three other Zhen Santoku knives from woodcraft, they are all great.

This knife is my go to for slicing carrots, celery, and other veggies. I put bubinga knife blanks with several coats of pure Tung oil and then tried and true BLO and the handle came out great.

After having doing one of the other Damascus blades for a gift, I decided to do the hammered finish Santoku for myself. Opted not to use the rivets, and instead did a contoured Elm burl handle to fit my hand. What a blade! Super sharp right out of the box, honed on my 4000 grit Norton waterstone just for that final touch, and this is a joy to use. I am an avid chef, and have an extensive collection of German and Japanese knives, but this has become one of my favorite knives for general purpose...even boning a small bird, as it's sharp as a laser and handles beautifully. Highly recommended project! If you have never used a knife of this quality, here's an excuse to make on your own with a totally custom handle. Wish I could post an image to show it off.

I have made a few of these kits, and am impressed by the quality of the blades on these higher end kits. My only disappointment has been the spotty instructions for some of the kits, like this one. The kit comes with interlocking rivets, which I planned for in my construction, but nowhere does it tell you what size the rivet heads are, and therefore what size drill to use for installing them (countersinking to the level of the scales). Some generalized instructions are available on the Woodcraft site for most projects, (many of the pen kits have really good, thorough instructions...) but these kits seem lacking in available help resources. From what I can tell it appears to be 6mm, so now I need to go back to the store to get one....to finish the knife. I see many examples of people finishing the kits without using the supplied rivets, perhaps next time I will omit them, but if they're included in the kit, I feel as though they should be used...and I like the look on most of the kits. recommended project if you haven't tried a knife kit yet!
