I've lived with several different sizes of these clamps for 2 or 3 years now and have tried to convince myself they're ok. They're not. Although very well made and sturdy they have a significant design flaw: The jaws are not compliant, that is they are so hard that there is no "give" when maximum pressure is applied. The ratcheting mechanism locks the jaws at increments as you squeeze the handles so it's very likely that the ratchet position won't allow the clamp to really tighten up on the work. So, as is, these clamps are not very useful, but I have found a hack that will save them. I glued some thick rubber on each jaw and this solved the problem. I used contact cement and some very thick vinyl flooring scraps, trimming them to the same size as the jaws. If you're willing to do something like this the clamps are handy and will work well for those situations where you just want to grab a clamp quickly and hold something together temporarily. Try them out right in the store and you'll instantly see what I'm describing.
