I purchased this set to sharpen carving gouges. These work very well for the carving tools I have, the stones put a very nice edge on the tools. Feel that for the price this is a very good set. I am not concerned over the packaging since I have discarded that after opening. The stones are why I bought the set and they are doing the job very well.

The stones themselves are decent. One side of the each stone appears to be flattened and finished, while the other side is not as nicely finished with knicks and dings throughout. The box itself is nice, but there is nothing holding the lid in place. There is plastic packaging covered in some velvety material holding the stones in place. It is attached to the box with plastic rivet type fasteners. In mine, the plastic was broken and fell apart as soon as I tried taking out the stones. The honing oil works nice, but the bottle was leaking. I really liked that they included a silicone non-slip holder to use with the stones. I didn't really buy the kit for the box and it's appearance, but when you take into account that if you were to buy each RH Preyda Arkansas Stone included in this kit individually it would cost about $107, this kit is not a bad price. I believe better quality Arkansas stones can be purchased elsewhere, but this is not a bad introductory set.

Totally restored edge tools... Used a combination stone equivalent to about 200/300 grit to grind and reshape old blades, followed by consistent sharpening using this set, and polished to a mirror finish. Worked great on various grades of steel. Stones dense enough that they absorb barely any honing oil, and waste material can be dabbed away. I recommend improving the included case with latch, hinge, magnetic clasp, etc.
