This sander replaced a ~20 year old Delta X5 which worked pretty well. It’s a step up. Aside from being faster, the oscillating feature leaves a finish without marks even with 80 grit paper. I can tell the difference between sanding with 80 and 100 grit paper by feel only. The difference isn’t visible and there are no visible scratches. The older Delta required that oily hardwoods be sanded sideways to the grain to prevent burning. So far, I have had no burning from the wood I’ve run through straight. Sanding on the end of the drum leaves marks from the paper attachment area, so I hope I don’t need to run wider pieces through this where two sideways passes are required. There is an adjustment to true the conveyor table to the drum. When trued, mine was at the extreme of travel, so if there is wear requiring further adjustment, some modifications will be necessary. Unlike the Delta, the conveyor belt ran true from the start without adjustment. The conveyor table is stamped sheet metal rather than cast. Even though it is reinforced, it is not flat. Mine dips .006” in the center from the two high spots about 5” on either side of this. I use the sander to thickness guitar tops, so this is too much variation. I made a sled from a flattened 3/4” of Baltic birch plywood to solve this problem. Overall, I am pleased with this product although I wish it had been made with a cast and machined conveyor table.
