I've been using General Finishes since I was 19 yrs old. Starting with my uncle's 48ft Ocean Cruiser. Lot's of wood on this boat. I advanced to refinishing doors, large doors and of many different woods, costing on an average of 50K. I was trained by two old Italian guys out of Brooklyn on how to refinish the doors they would make for their client base in New York. I've used nothing but General Finishes. Unless you know how to stain like these two old Italian guys, it will never come out the way you expect it. Staining is an art and unless you learn the craft you're not going to get what you expected. I always get the outcome that I want with GF stains.

This is a very rich looking color for any type of wood! For blotchy woods I use pre-conditioner! Let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe the stain on with a cloth, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe off the stain and let it dry! If you want a darker color just wipe on a second coat and wipe it off shortly, thereafter! After drying you can use any type of overcoat from shellac to varnish or poly! Be sure and not drag your finish brush over and over the same spot! You can pull up stain if you do that too often! This stain makes pine and poplar woods look like expensive hardwoods! It also adds a certain something to walnut if you can believe it! Be sure and test on a small sample of the wood you are using, or use the underside for experimentation, as different woods take stains differently, even boards from the same tree!! All in all this is highly recommended!! And no VOC’s!!
