I have had my PM2014 for about eight months now. As a hobbyist woodworker who is new to turning, this lathe has been perfect for me as I learn all the in's and out's of turning. That said, I have thoroughly enjoyed this lathe, but can already see I'll be looking to upgrade to a full size at some point in the future. PROs: Fit and finish are impeccable (it's Powermatic!), very intuitive controls and overall functioning, movable speed control box, easy to find parts and compatibility (again, it's Powermatic!), and surprisingly powerful torque for a 110v machine. I am used to working with 220v machines, so I didn't expect alot from this lathe considering it is only 110v. That said, I have been very impressed with the 3 phase converter's ability to create and maintain such power for a little machine. I thought I had stopped the motor initially on a few turnings, but realized the belt was a little loose. Once that was tightened up, I havent had any issues with stopping the motor. CONs: Size. I wish I was able to turn some bigger/longer items- but that's what you get for this size range (PM2014/midi lathes), the stock faceplate and live centers are nothing to write home about, nor is the tool rest. I replaced those with Axeminster but still use the original pieces from time to time (still building up my accessory stockpile), and lastly I wish Powermatic was still made in America. All that said, I highly recommend this lathe

I bought mine from Amazon. The first one immediately had bearing problems, it squealed. It was replaced, the second one did the same. Bought Laguna 15/24. Have had it for two years and the control panel just died. Have ordered another one for $366. It’s a good lathe, things break.

This lathe has not been right from day one. All of the other Jet and Powermatic tools I have owned or used have been great. It has already blown up the speed sensing collar once. Replaced that and bearings after trying to get customer service for five weeks. It ran quiet for about two uses. It sounds like it will blow again any day now, but no call back from customer service or reply to emails for a week now. This was a great company, now I figure I will have to replace the lathe on my dime since I can't get any help.

Re: PM2014 Wood Lathe Summary: The PM2014 Wood Lathe that I recently purchased (new) is absolutely not acceptable due to very poor quality control and substandard accessory parts. This lathe failed during use causing me personal injury, time off work and lost production. Quality control issues: - Bed ways poorly machined, very rough circular machining grooves that made accurate component positioning difficult. - Warped casting at headstock end. Not sure of the impact on use. - Mounting holes were not located as indicated in owners manual. The mounting hole patterns were also not to specification in spacing and tapped depth. - A loud ticking noise coming from within the head stock. (A frequently reported problem.) - When the tail stock live center is engaged, and a reasonable axial load is applied to the spindle a loud growling noise comes from the spindle bearings. When I looked up the detailed bearing specification for the "6005 ZZ" bearings used in this lathe it appeared to be a poor choice for this lathe especially considering the radial load that might be imposed when turning a larger bowl. Lastly, the accessory parts included with the 2014 are of poor quality especially the spur drive and live center. A 3â€
