I was really excited about Rikon's new 8inch benchtop jointer. The extension tables and ability to adjust outfeed, along with 8inches . Like most every Rikon product I own it came perfectly and setup was hassle free. It was dialed in and good to go.....that lasted a week. The fence is almost impossible to keep square, which is a hassle, but easy fix. The tables themselves do not stay coplaner. Jointers are typically a headache to use unless you get them perfectly set and take the time to do so..though this jointer does not stay set. I found myself spending hours calibrating to find it only stays calibrated for a week or so. The major design flaw comes when you need to adjust the outfeed. Once you start you will not stop. To set and balance you need to remove her screws on all 4 nuts and adjust. When you adjust one the other will fall out of alignment. When you tighten the screws back in place it will move table 1/16 off. I really didn't even want to mess with outfeed and go down that rabbit hole, but keep the outfeed aligned to cutters is IMPOSSIBLE. Once it is aligned ...screw back in takes it out...or makes portions of table off and not coplaner. This was a large sum of cash to pay for a benchtop...which now is only 90 days old and sets collecting dust in my shop. I also found that having to adjust fence to 90 has stripped out plastic knobs..so forced to get in place as close as I can using the micro adjustment. I fully expect work when it comes to jointers...but I also expect that after taking the time to set it will stay. I kick myself everyday for this purchase and back to edge jointing on tablesaw...🤦â€
