“I had been fiddling with a cyclonic system for my 4 Inch wall mounted system. The options were very limited, and extremely pricey. So, I figured I'd give this a try since it only cost 10% of the other cyclonic systems out the (Seriously, why are 4in dust deputies 5x more expensive than the 2.5in?). After mapping out the holes I cut them from the lid on my steel barrel. It might seem like you'll want it as close to the wall, and running parallel with it, but it actually hinders it. I found it's best if you have it near edge, but slightly turned inward towards the center so it will appear as if it's aiming about 8 inches in front if the 90 degree port in underside of lid. It helps it maintain speed and pressure. If you have it running parallel to drums inside walk, the pressure increases and my lid would pull down in the center. It also made my dust collector sound like it was working harder. So now, I have my exhaust outflow dumping outside through my wall, and as I used my planer, and sander, I had a piece of duct tape attached to my outside port to see how much fine dust escaped... and it was immeasurable. The tape looked brand new. Meaning it currently collects almost 100% of my dust before getting to my machine. I'd assume it can't collect 100%, but I'm yet to see any dust on the clear acrylic tube I'm using as an exhaust. So, this gets a surprising 5 stars from me. (Side note, my 55 gallon drum was used for Poly resin insulation, and has an extremely slick coating inside it (ptfe maybe) So that might be assisting it to make dust fall easier, and not escape so, results may vary.)
