Rated 5 for the use case I got it for - material removal on a Southern Yellow Pine 2x4 that was already glued and screwed in place - compensating for a DIY error on a bed frame build. The circumstance required a hand tool - and this unique old-school tool seemed to be the best for the task. SYP can be tough to work by hand, so it took a bit of practice, but the Shinto hacksaw blades did the job. You will know you are pushing down too hard if the tool gets "stuck" in the wood. The SYP did clog up the blades a bit because of the resin in the wood, but that was not hard to knock out with a brush. The resulting wood surface was a bit rough but not bad - followed up with a sanding attachment on an oscillating tool. The core of the tool, the Shinto blade, is solid. I did have to retighten the knurl nut holding the handle to the blade , as it worked loose a couple times due to the challenge of the SYP I was working with. The plastic grip and knob did not take away from the quality of the tool.
