Similar to a previous reviewer, the quick release function never seemed to work right. Always engaging or not engaging at the wrong time. I also ended up getting rid of the quick release function with a zip tie, which worked fine for several months. Then one day teh vise just stopped being able to hold tension. I would snug it down on a board and it would almost get tight and then slip. Took the whole thing apart to find that the thread in the half nut were slightly rounded over from a bad fit with the main screw. Doesn't look like they sell replacement parts anywhere. I don't recommend this vise at all.

As others have noted, racking is a problem with this type of vice - no getting around it. I was hoping the German made product would have tighter tolerances to reduce this as much as possible. BUT THAT'S not the biggest problem... the "machined pivoting nut" that enables the quick release function is fickle. Sometimes is sticks, sometimes it slips. Clearly not well machined and mated with the screw. My solution was to zip tie the thing closed, forfeiting the quick release function, but greatly improving it's primary purpose -- holding your workpiece in place. And now thew worst part -- that single cast iron part broke under heavier pressure. Apparently, forcing it to remain in place bypassed its self-preserving slipping ability, although I seriously doubt that was a designed fail safe. It fails.

Got this for Christmas 2020 as a gift, and it was pretty easy to install. Which is good, because the part that catches so that you can crank it open or closed has fallen off 3 times in the six months I've had it -- if it was hard to take off the bench, replace the part, and put back on I'd have junked it already. This vise is crap.
