“I have used the brass threaded inserts in the past but without the drive tool. The drive tool makes insertion so much easier and helps align the inserts correctly. I was driving the inserts into hard walnut and it took a lot of torque to screw them in. The hole location was close to the edge of the wood and I was concerned that the pressure from the inserts might split the wood. Fortunately it didn't, but I wondered if the lead thread were to be shaped like saw teeth, would it cut into the wood better and relieve some of the splitting stress. Just a thought.”
