“I am just getting started with wood carving, so I did not want to spend hundreds of $$ on riffling rasps just to find out that this isn't going to be my thing. So I picked up this less expensive set to see if I want to stick with this hobby. I am carving the handle for a walking stick out of maple, so I need sharp tools to cut that hard wood. I am pleasantly surprised and pleased with the quality of these rasps. They are cut very coarse, and very sharp. I am using a light touch to keep the points from snagging the wood. With a light stroke, they work well removing the maple. The variety of shapes is good, and I can find a shape that suits the part of the carving I am working on. One suggestion I would make is to wear gloves. Both ends of the tool are sharp rasps, and the "handle" end will rasp the palm of your hand as easily as the business end will rasp the wood. I have a pair of cut-resistant kitchen gloves that work well protecting my hand.”
