Full disclosure I don’t have a lot of experience with router planes. I made a shop made router plane out of an old chisel and block of wood. So this is a big upgrade from that. The packaging is very high end which is a step up from other Woodriver products. The quality and weight of the plane is good. The factory grind in the bevel had a bit of a low spot that took some time on 1000 grit to get rid of. The bottom of the blade was nice and flat though. I polished up to 16,000 grit. My only negatives are the thumb screws to lock the blade and depth stop. You have to crank down pretty hard or they will come out of adjustment. The depth stop collar should be hex shaped on the inside. When you tighten the depth stop it lifts up on the screw side of the collar leaving only a small reference area for your setting. Probably not a huge deal but could be better. Woodriver can definitely make improvements there. Over all it is well built, functions as intended, and is a good value. If you need a router plane occasionally and don’t want to spend big dollars on the other brands this is the one for you.

Like the product description says, it's a hefty plane that is smaller than a full size router plane. The plane packs a nice weight that makes it plow through wood far easier than the small plane options from Veritas or Lie Nielsen. The handles are a nice addition and make it more functional. As far as issues, the main one I've had is tightening the blade so it stays in the correct height. It's fine while working with the plane but if you bump the blade it may throw off the height setting. This happened to me twice. It's easy to reset and knowing the issue I can avoid causing it to happen but worth noting since a full size router plane would be less likely to have this issue. Last negative comment is the blade stem is nice and thick and the blade an ample width but the material that joins them thins significantly. Perhaps this was necessary for the function of the blade but it raises possible concern for the longevity of the blade. Overall, if you are looking for a smaller router plane but want something slightly more functional than the offerings from Lie Nielsen and Veritas then this would be a great option for you. However, if you are looking for a fully functioning router plane then save your money and get the Lie-Nielsen, Veritas, Katz-Moses, or even the Benchdog one if you are on a budget.
