“I am a turner, not a carver. I purchased this with full intent of taking advantage of the 1x8 TPI threaded spindle it came with so I could remove the preforated plate and attach one of my lathe chucks. No luck as the spindle threads were a little too large for my chucks. Bob, an extremely helpful person at woodcraft HQ, helped me confirm that this was also the case with the units he had on hand and that he would take it up with the manufacturer. He though that the plating on the threads might be the issue. Sure enough I got an inexpensive ' thread damage repair die" from Amazon and corrected that problem and not only does it work great now, but I have that die to help fix any nicks or bends in any of my 1x8TPI spindles! Bob was simply great! Whole thing was still less expensive that a purpose made device to do the same thing holding a chuck for still work. I have photos if anyone is interested.”

“The 1"-8 threads were a little off. The only thing that went on easily was the faceplate that came with it, but none of my other accessories really fit. I used a 1"-8 rethreading die to recut the threads, and now my chuck goes on much more easily”

“Very heavy duty steel carving vise. Also quite heavy, so it should provide a good sturdy working area. I’ll be mounting mine to a board so It will be portable.”
