The cyclone does effectively catch 90% of sawdust and all larger chips from my table saw or vacuumed off the floor, so my vac filters stay clean for many uses. However, when mounted on a standard plastic bucket, the unit is very unstable. It moves with the hose, so it gets in my way or the whole thing falls over. The force of my shop vac sucks the sides of the plastic bucket in, which makes it even less stable. Finally, the top is supposed to latch on with some plastic clips intended to catch the lip of the bucket. This worked at first, but now the clips don't snap in and the top is not firmly on. Clearly needs a lot of hacks to really do its job.

Yes, it is a user assembled product. I just bought one of these and found the gasket poorly packed in the box. The gasket and clips should have been installed at the factory. My guess is that several factories supplied the parts that were thrown in the box. The gasket was severely distorted, but I did manage to get it installed. Installed on a standard 5 gallon bucket from Lowe's or Home Depot, the unit is very top heavy and turns over at the slightest push. A heavy weight needs to placed in the bucket or attached to the bottom. I put a brick inside. Quality, otherwise seems OK. Time will tell. I also have an Oneida Dust Deputy Plus that has an ever greater stability problem, since it is much taller. The hoses will not stay attached to that unit. Oneida is wrong in stating there is a large variation in 2-1/2" hoses and suggests electrical tape - shame on Oneida marketing for not asking product development engineers. The cheaply made knock-off from Home Depot might be worth a try. It is the same price however, so I went with the name brand. My old Craftsman shop vacuum has a lot of suction so I don't expect the lid to fall off when the vacuum is on. Review from a woodworking, Mechanical Engineer.
