I got throughly frustrated trying to tune a 1950's model Band Saw. Tool guy who worked on it first did a lot of cussing getting a set of urathane tires on it. Could never get the tension right and tjhey kept flying off. At the recomendation of my local Woodcraft stop owner I choose the Jet over the Laguna that I was also considering. What sealed it for me was Ed said they had seen sparks fly from their classroom Laguna because of the ceramic guides. Jet he said had ball bearings. Sold me plus seeing how quick a blade clould be changed on the Jet over what I had been dealing with on the old dinosaur. Only change I would make is have the Pros put the Jet SFX together. I enlisted two helpers and my across the back fence neighbor figured out how to lift the Jet up by use of a "come along" so we could get the Jet base and the roller base I bought so I didn' thave to drag the Jet out from the corner of my shop. I'm happy with the performance I've seen. I plan to use my Jet for resawing and have attempted using it for that twice with good results both times. I'm using a desk top 10" for my fine sawing. Good thing there are good videos on YouTube! I had to watch 5-6 of them to get the saw tuned correctly. For hobby/beginning a wood shop business users like me, my advice is Start with the Bandsaw Guru, Alex Snodgrass and look at several others before you attempt to run the saw. Hint: The gauge is only partially helpful. I had to learn that the hard way. Summary: Glad I got it. Looking to get into the white oak, gum, and walnut planks my family member gave me. If you are not a seasoned wood worker, get the store to set it up for you even if you have to pay. I lost 2 weeks doing it on my own and am working late afternoon and evenings to get ready for a show.
