This is a very nice upgrade from my DeWalt 13" I have been using for the last 3 years. It is much quieter and runs off 230 with 2.5 HP this has cut very well. With patience it will even take out all the waves you might get from your bandsaw. Wood comes out butter smooth no need to sand. I would only give it a 4 star if the cart stand was also in this review as I move it around my small shop a lot and what a hassle it is to bend down to tighten or loosen each wheel for the legs to hit the ground and with the tiny finger screws I would have preferred the DeWalt cart over this since the DeWalt cart you just step on the peddle and move it. This cart is nice looking but not very convenient for moving to and from an area. The planer though is nice but the hand crank could be better it does loosen up sometimes since the screw brake is also on the wheel. I can't wait for a larger run to use it with.

Very happy I went with this model instead of a big floor model. It’s well made. Easy to set up. Can be moved around the shop easily if needed. Finish it leaves is fantastic. And best of all, it’s super quiet. If you currently use a dewalt and have been thinking about upgrading to a helical head, sell your dewalt and get this.

Initial thoughts are this thing is going to be a beautiful beast for me. First go round was 100 bd ft of 8', 8/4 red oak. The thickness gauge has a neat hook like feature which, as inevitably will happen while impatiently shoving wood through for 1/16 passes, stops the wood from jamming up the motor when a mid-board humps rears up. Performed wonderfully with almost no snipe on the end of 8' boards, with mindful outfeed support. Also, thanks Oliver for putting the logo on both sides of the stand so it was impossible for me to put it on backwards. That would have been devastating. Two thumbs, way up.

A fantastic upgrade for anyone needing more horsepower than a regular benchtop planer. The setup was super easy and was up and running in around 2hrs time including the stand which is very stable. Some would say I down graded in machines but around 6 years ago I had a dewalt 735x planer with a helical head, and while it was an accurate machine it didn't have enough power to keep up with all the white oak i was running through it, so I upgraded to a jet jwp-15bhh and it was a fantastic machine but always got snipe, so I sold it for another new 15inch planer that had more adjustments that could be made and had a ton of problems, so much so that the company actually bought it back, so this machine came out and I thought about all the things I liked about the dewalt planer but the oliver has more horsepower, a helical head and the digital readout and I knew this should be perfect for me. Time will tell how well this machine is and while its not for everyone, I do lots of precision pattern makers work and this oliver planer seems to fit the bill. I face jointed all my lumber on one side before I plane and have the infeed and outfeed tables dead level to the bed and I have zero snipe on anything I've ran through it. Hopefully I can do an updated review once I've put some serious hours behind it.

I bought this to replace my WEN 12.5" planner. So far, the planner seems to be well built and pretty quiet to operate. I've run about 60 feet of oak butcher block through it. It has handled it without much issue. Have it hooked up to a powermatic 1300 1.75HP dust collector and have not had any issues with the dust collection. I researched this for quite a while and was going back and forth between it and a Grizzly 15" planner. I almost went with the Grizzly, but decided on the Oliver for the space savings and features that were stock with the Oliver as well as less maintenance.

I replaced my 13" Rikon planer with this model, and the only reason I'm not giving it five stars is because there is a lot more plastic than I expected in the housing. Other than that, this thing is a beast, and so far, I have been thrilled with the cut quality, as well as the level of the sound. Dust collection isn't awesome, but is probably on par with my previous Rikon unit. Definitely would recommend to anyone who is considering this purchase.
