“I recently bought this sander from my nearest Woodcraft store, who were nice enough to bring it from another location to save me drive time. I was excited to try it out as my first Festool product. I was shocked to discover that it is terrible as a stand alone sander and only marginally better attached to a vacuum. The build quality is good and the light is a clever and useful feature but that's where my compliments end. The weight of the battery creates an awful balance problem so the sander wants to fall on it's butt requiring you to overcompensate by pressing down on the opposing side. The vibration from the sander is also considerable without a vacuum and far exceeds my current sander at the same setting level. After attaching a vacuum the vibration calms down, but the balance problem persists and the sander lopes noticeably. The dust collection bag is not very useful as the sander doesn't provide sufficient suction to draw particulate into it. I have used a Bosch sander for a number of years with satisfaction but everyone raves about Festool so I thought they must be so much better. This one is not. I called the store where I purchased it and voiced my opinion and asked about the return policy and they were very nice and listened attentively to my complaints. I was then contacted by their Festool rep who was less receptive and seemed to take my criticism of the product as a personal affront to him. I try not to say never, but my first experience with Festool was very disappointing and I will not likely purchase another any time soon.”
