There is a learning curve with milk paint. Some tips: use warm water; equal parts of water and powder; add water a little at a time and mix until smooth, adding the rest of the water a little at a time until all of the water is added, mixing after each addition. After all of the water is added, mix for two more minutes (I use an old jar and a large wooden popsicle stick). Let the paint sit for 5-15 minutes (depending on the color, some take longer to absorb the pigments). Give one more stir and you should be good to go. The consistency should be like thin pancake batter or a melted milkshake. If your brush drags along the wood you need to add a bit more water to the paint, stir and try again. The finish you get is unlike any other. It is a slow, deliberate process to get the paint ready and your fine woodworking deserves nothing less.
