I used this on a wooden chair and table. It works well on intricate surfaces. I could not get an acceptable smooth finnish on a small table despite reviewing the GF video and online help from the GF Facebook page. It would just not level. Mostly love their product but would use it again for flat surfaces

I'm just about to drive to Woodcraft to buy this product. The other reviewer is using it over old finish, and I'm doing it on raw wood, so your results might vary. It is my go to finish coat, and has been for years. It rags on, which I love. It dries smooth. As you might guess, it doesn't run much at all, so you don't have drip problems. Recommended.

General Finishes -Gel Topcoat- Satin I have used gel varnishes for many years, but not recently. Having been in the pipe and reed organ repair business for nearly 50 yrs, I liked the option of a gel varnish when cleaning up the cabinet of a reed organ or pipe organ console. Most older instruments were shellac finishes and after many decades they need to be cleaned, and some water dye brushed here and there to disguise the blemishes. Many times time or budget does not allow for a fresh shellac finish. In the early days of gel varnishes I found some brands did not tack over immediately and I could spend time making an even application. So it was a disappointment with this "General Finish brand" to experience massive streaking and near instant taking of the surface, while wiping. The videos seemed over simplistic and the results show that. I expected and provided 3 thin rubbed in prep-coats, using 0000 steel wool between each application. I also allowed 2 full days for drying, between each coat. The first three layers showed a good filling to the old shellac and resulted in a good very even and smooth surface. But trying to make a final finish coating never results in a streak free even satin finish as I have experienced in the past. My guess is that the formulation is different now. I hope that I can find a brand which does what I experienced in the past. Gel varnishes have been a good alternative to re-shellacing or modified French polishing.
