“Powermatic makes high quality, very heavy machines. This planer with the Helical head (Byrd) is a joy to use....why spend this much? if these things matter to you... amazing finish, looks like it was just sanded quiet, VERY quiet vs. jet engine of the lunch box variety. power, can eat a lot of wood without bogging down why HH? easy to change blades, simple 90 deg rotation, but they seem to last forever difficult grain, no issue with tiny scallop cuts, so if you work with burls or wild grain, this is the ticket... width...even if you are not passing 20" boards through, u can pass two boards of about 9" wide together which really speeds up the process it also prevents snipe, as you start them at staggered times so there is always a board passing through... keep the tables rust free, they are cast iron... getting those tables just right, was quite the battle, a 6ft starret straight edge really helped...”
